Phoenix, Ariz. – The Warriors Royal 2021’s took to the field against the Lonestar Baseball Club National League 2021 in their first game of the Wilson Premier Championship West. In the top of the first Dali Pomfret (The College Preparatory HS, 2021) was able to get out of a bases loaded two out jam. The Warriors and Lonestar continued to trade zeros, until Lonestar pushed two runs across in the third and fourth innings.
Jimmy Fitzgerald (Campolindo HS, 2021) relieved Pomfret in the 5thinning, after Dali got the first two outs. Jimmy went on to throw a scoreless 6thinning, retiring all four hitters he saw during the game. Lonestar was able to push another run across in the top of the 7th. This gave them a 5-0 lead heading into the last frame of the game.
The Warriors however did not go without a fight. Nico Contreras (Northgate HS, 2021) got the inning going with an one out walk. Christopher Mancini (The Athenian School HS, 2021) kept the rally going with a two out base hit, setting the table for Danny Woelfel (De La Salle HS, 2022). Danny hit a 1-0 fastball to right center for a double, plating Contreras and Mancini, for the Warriors’ only RBIs of the day. The next hitter grounded out to the shortstop, ending the Warriors’ rally and the game.
Mancini was the only Warrior with multiple hits in the game, Woelfel’s double and a George Thompson III (Pittsburg HS, 2021) first inning single, accounted for the other two Warriors’ hits.
The Warriors will return to the field tomorrow with two games to finish pool play. They will play D-Bat Elite 16u at 1:30pm and then Arizona RBI at 5:15pm, both at the Surprise Stadium Complex. At the conclusion of the day they will be seated, based on their record, for playoff play starting Sunday.
