Alameda, Calif. – On Sunday the 2021 Warriors were victorious over the Alameda Merchants in a nine-inning game at College of Alameda.  The Merchants threaten first with runners on first and second in the bottom of the second. However, pitcher Alec Hagopian (San Ramon Valley HS, 2020) was able to produce a ground ball for a double play and a strike out looking to eliminate the threat.

The Merchants threaten later in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded and two out, but Dali Pomfret (The College Preparatory HS, 2021) was able to induce a ground ball to second basemen Connor Jewik (San Ramon Valley HS, 2021) for the third out of the inning and keeping the game scoreless.  The game stayed scoreless until the Warriors struck in the top of the sixth.

Danny Woelfel (De La Salle HS, 2022) lead the inning off with a bunt single.  After a fielder’s choice, George Thompson III (Pittsburg HS, 2021) drove in the first run of the game with a double to left center.  Niko Contreras (Northgate HS, 2021) followed up Thompson’s hit with a triple, plating the second run of the game and for the Warriors.  Contreras and Richard Peters (De La Salle HS, 2021) went on to both score runs in the sixth, cementing the Warriors’ first lead of the game 4-0.

The Merchants went quite in the bottom of the sixth.  The Warriors pushed another two runs across the plate in the top of the Seventh.  Khari Johnson (De La Salle HS, 2021) was able to start the rally with an one out single.  Thompson was able to plate Johnson with his second double of the game. He later came around to score on a ground out by Contreras to the second basemen, after Thompson was able to swipe third on a wild pitch.

Arjun Feist (Bishop O’Dowd HS, 2021) provided the Warriors with a scoreless seventh and eighth inning.  The Merchants were able to push a single run across in the bottom of the ninth after a leadoff triple and a pass ball.  However, Jimmy Fitzgerald (Campolindo HS, 2021) was able to retire the next three hitters in a row to secure the victory for the Warriors and Jack Harris (Las Lomas HS, 2021) who was the pitcher of record for the fifth and sixth innings while the Warriors took the lead.

The Warriors Royals 2021 will next be in action at the 2019 Wilson Premier Championship West, in Phoenix, Ariz. from June 7-10, 2019.
